Some New Music by James Blake - Enough Thunder

I posted about James Blake when I saw him before (here) and now his new EP 'Enough Thunder' has become available to stream (below). The album has got a melancholy, almost ghostly and low-key kind of feel to it, very unlike his self-titled LP released earlier this year that was more bit heavier, up-beat and more rhythmically focused. The title of the new album (Enough Thunder) kind of points to this transition, the thunder doesn't need to brought - there's enough already. It seems like a lot more of a personal album to me, and should probably listened to with that in mind.

It's definitely a lot more mature work coming from him, especially only being 23. And though it's a nice listen it is a lot less lively than what I'm used to, especially with his two piano-based tracks 'Case of You' and the title track 'Enough Thunder'. I do really like the Bon Iver collaboration 'Fall Creek Boys Choir' (which I've mentioned before), but 'We Might Feel Unsound" is probably my favorite track on the EP, though it definitely seems to be the most like his previous LP.

After my first few listens I'm not as pleased with the album as I thought I'd be, but perhaps after some time and re-listens I'll warm up to it. My reaction reminds me of how I initially felt after listening to MGMT's 'Congratulations' (2010) and comparing it to 'Oraculor Spectacular' (2007), and though I still prefer the earlier album I can definitely appreciate and enjoy both.
