The Ides of March Trailer
Having voted yesterday, this movie arrived at a pretty relevant time. It seemed to be pretty good accurately depicting how the world of politics actually operates, and the relationship between the real and ideal, as well as the young and the old in politics. Because of this, the movie is pretty serious and intense basically throughout and has a pretty powerful but unsettling end. The film is an adaptation of Willimon's 2008 play Farragut North, and the 'Ides of March' refers to the 15th of March in the Roman Calendar and was a festive day held in honor of the god of war, Mars. It's best known for the day Julius Caesar was stabbed 23 times and killed in 44 B.C.
The movie had phenomenal dialogue, and was filmed immaculately to the point you could see the pores on Clooney's face. The lighting was also very well done, and served as a common motif from the very opening scene. The flirting in the movie was some of the best I've scene, the final sequence was incredible but I'd have to say my favorite scene was the showdown between Gosling and Clooney in a kitchen which I think basically sums up the movie.
Personal Rating 8.1/10
This is Clooney's fourth time directing, and though the film has gotten some polarized reviews by critics I think it'll fare pretty well in terms of nominations for directing and acting. Gosling is also exploding on the scene and really showcasing his versatility, from Blue Valentine to Drive to this - a face we'll be seeing more of for a while I imagine.
