Some Collages by Hilary Faye

Hilary Faye Sloane is a Melbourne based artist who is a recent graduate in design. She works in a lot of different mediums including typography, photography, animation, illustration as well as collage and she’s quite talented in most of those areas. I particularly like her collages, photography and mixed media work, here are some of the highlights.

Hilary's got a great eye for color and composition which really comes across in her photography. Her works are slightly surreal and usually pretty minimal. For me, she seems like quite a feminine artist (meaning I would have guessed she was a women from looking at her art), aside from the obvious use of women throughout most of her work it's interesting to notice that most of the men she depicts are either faceless or turned away. She also has some interesting works involving animals where they are combined or contain some other animal, bird or insect. Some of her works also play with sizes and perspectives of particular subjects in relation to their environment which always creates an interesting effect.

It's a little disappointing that she doesn't title her works, but that certainly doesn't take away from her as a versatile artist with a unique and distinguishable aesthetic. Here's a video she did for an Australian band YOLKE a few months ago, it makes me think of King Midas.
